How long are you housebound following discharge from the hospital?  I have to go over to Philly to see my surgeon.  My husband thinks we could take the high speed line, but that is a bumpy train ride and then I have to walk a few blocks from the station.  This is because our van will not fit in Pa Hospital's parking garage.

Ulcerative Proctitis since Sept of 1998. Hospitalized for eight days.  Prednisone, Asacol, Rowasa enemas.  Two year remission. Flare..switched from Asacol to Colazal.  Two year remission.  Started 6MP in 2002.  Flared yearly from 2003 to May of 08.  Hospitalized for ten days in May of 08.  Flaring more often since.  Off 6MP. Remicade failed.  Humira failed.   Meds: Colazal, prednisone, Cort & canasa suppositories, Benicar (Blood pressure).  Surgery scheduled for June 28th...maybe sooner if possible.  Still flaring

Well, the first couple of days I just laid around the house not doing much. Second week I started doing a little more and the third week I was able to get out and walk around stores but my energy drained very quickly.
Now I'm able to go pretty much anywhere, although I still don't have all my energy back.

I guess it pretty much has to do with how healthy you are before surgery. I was in a horrible position because I wasn't eating much or even exercising much.
21 y/o male livin' in Georgia. Diagnosed with Left-Sided Colitis in 2002; re-diagnosed with Pancolitis in Nov. 2009.
June 2010 I beat UC by having surgery.
Drugs tried: Just about every 5ASA medicine, enemas, prednisone, turmeric, fish oil, Remicade, psyllium seed powder, Metamucil.
Unable to take 6MP.
Step one of Jpouch surgery - 6/2/2010
Readmitted back to hospital because of blockage (my fault cause I ate Steak n Shake 3 days after being released from surgery) - 6/10/2010
Step two of Jpouch surgery - 9/?/2010

Your hospital should have Valet Parking and the height shouldn't be a problem with them.

It is hard to say...we are all different!

After about a week at home (following 5 days in the hosp) i was able to do short trips to the store. I was getting these muscle spasm/cramps in my side if I pushed it too much. The tylenol 3 helped with the pain, so before I went out I would take a dose.

By the time I got out of the hospital, it had been 3 weeks (because I went in with complications), so I was actually able to walk to a mall from a nearby hotel I stayed in and actually shop. I had not been able to eat for 7 months prior. Had no pain, But tired easily. I would go for the valet parking idea. Rosemary

They don't have an outside lot....so wouldn't matter valet parking or not.  We could either have our daughter take us over or if she would be unable, our neighbor called and offered her help.  Thank GOD for good Samaritans!

I started taking walks outside about the 4th day unless the weather was awful - this was in March. I stayed pretty close to home until I was able to wear a regular pair of jeans as opposed to sweatpants - me in sweatpants is not something I was in a hurry to expose my fellow citizens to!
