I thought the idea was to get me off the prednisone. My surgeon said they will be giving me prednisone through my IV and probably 40 mgm!! I am down to 10 mgm now.

IV doses are not the same as oral doses, though, so I don't know what that equivalent is. They had me on 300mg IV steroids when I was in recently but then switched me to 40mg oral.

I had to be on prednisone after the first surgery because I was still on it going in to surgery and needed to taper off it for a couple weeks after

300 mg IV!!! Holy Crapoli!!! I heard it was stronger through the IV. They had me on 60 through the IV when I was in the hospital in 08. Then they had to give me insulin because my blood sugar went up to 180 but I wanted to make sure they double checked the amount of insulin because a friend of mine was given too much insulin and almost died. You have to be your own advocate. They are gonna hate me in there cause I question EVERYTHING. They'll be sticking that NG tube back down my throat..lol.

My blood sugar has never been over 154 before (when I was on 60mg of Pred. last summer). It went as high as 240 in the hospital on the IV steroids. Ugh

Yes, even after surgery you will have to taper off prednisone. And they give you higher doses during surgery so your body doesn't crash. Don't worry about this, your doctor knows what he is doing. Your taper post surgery will be easy and much quicker.
