My husband had rectal removal surgery last Monday.  He's doing really well except he can't find a comfortable way to sit except in a LazyBoy chair.  He is not able to sit on our hard dining room chairs, even with a soft pillow or at the chair by our computer.   Suggestions are needed.   How long with this discomfort last?  He is hating the thought that he will be like this all summer long.

well its gonna take a little while! it was about a month before i could sit on a hard chair comfortably. I sat with the pressure on my tail bone, dont get a donut pillow though, those are bad!
i suggest either a very soft regular pillow, or a comforter or something folded a whole bunch to make a very thick pad.

Everyone's different - I was fine pretty much anywhere but on a hard wooden chair as long as I had a pillow under me. Summerstorm is correct tho, those donut pillows could cause MORE pressure in the area resulting in the stitches pulling out.

I laid in a bathtub to soak my stitches and feel more comfortable. No hard chairs without pillows. I heard donuts were bad too.

It's all a process to recover. Good luck and hope it gets better quickly.
Those things we keep trying to do get easier not because the feat gets easier but our ability to "do" gets better.
