I am having severe pain a week and a half after surgery around my incision. Had to take a trip to the ER and no answers other than possibly spasms. Does anyone have any other ideas of what it could be and what you can do for the pain? The pain meds are not helping....
Exploratory surgery Sept/2009 after having "female issues", the doctor found a diverticula abscess, the "not so confident doctor" kept sending me all over town for ultrasounds and doing nothing. In the meantime, I am still wondering around in severe pain. I ended up finally getting a new gynecologist who is the greatest! She saw good reason for a hysterectomy and once in the OR, found I had severe diverticulitis and called in the greatest surgeon ever! Severe diverticulitis had buried itself underneath my uterus and had completely turned my insides to "concrete", my organs were unidentifiable. The surgeon had to "chisel" his way in just so I could have the hysterectomy. I came out of surgery with a colostomy which was NOT expected. 6 months later, May/2010, they went in to do the the colostomy take down and I still had a leak in my large intestines and I had to have an ileostomy. I had this for 6 weeks and they did my reversal surgery again June 24, 2010. I am finally ostomy free and never been so excited to have a "bowel movement" in all of my life. I will always be grateful to GOD and continue to pray for all of my ostomate friends; past, present & future! May God bless and be with all of you!

well it could be the healing, it does hurt really bad, or it could also be really bad gas, I suggest you call your surgeon though

I agree that pain bad enough that pain meds don't help would warrant a call to the surgeon. I was only ever prescribed pain meds for 10 days past surgery. I have had issues with pain here and there after that and sometimes it was strong enough I wanted pain meds, but it didn't last too long. The pain I have now is rectal pain--no incision type pain.
27/F Diagnosed with unspecified UC 11/08 (symptoms for over a year before)
Asacol, Prednisone, Remicade with no success--no remission for over 2 years
8/09 colonoscopy shows that the whole colon is affected
12/18/09 Removal of colon, creation of J-Pouch and ostomy; recessed stoma; 12/30/09 Takedown too soon; RV fistula;1/9/10 Second Ileostomy Surgery;
1/25/10 Stoma Revision Surgery; 3/30/10 Takedown again; 6/9/10 Scope and Biopsy--Diagnosed with Crohns Disease (maybe...)
Tried gluten free and dairy free with no noticeable improvement; Was on TPN and IV fluids 2/10-6/10. Currently:Prednisone 40 mg, Culturelle, D, B12, Iron, Prenatal vitamin, Lomotil, Lortab, Humira, Rowasa
