Hi,

I posted this question on the total colectomy thread but am putting it here too for answers from additional people.

How MUCH is it normal for an ileostomy to slow down over time?

For unknown reasons I'm not really very hungry so I don't take in all that much right now. No small bowel narrowings found on CT enterography and otherwise feeling OK.

BUT my norm was 200-700 cc's output per day depending on what I ate.

Now I put out about 100 cc's over night. Then maybe 35 after breakfast (rice cereal, coffee, and juice). Then today for lunch I had a hot fudge sundae and only put out about 50 cc's?

Have had my ileo for 3 years this August. Does anyone else find they slow down this much over time?

Am getting a bit concerned. Thanks,

Rosemary

mine takes spells where it is really slow, then it will speed back up and go back down.
Seems to depend on what i eat, and lately i have noticed my activty level
UC for 8 years, before finally kicking its butt and having a permanent ileostomy April 17 2007!
-I have gone to find myself, if i get back before i return, keep me here-

Thanks summer. Activity does seem to have a bearing on things. Rosemary

Im the same I haven't had much of an appetite lately so my output is minimal too. Its nice not having to get up 4 times during the night now though :-)

Andorable,

Yes once up at night is a good thing. I remember when it was new, I would be up and down like 3 or 4 times at night. Rosemary
