I was gone for 16 days on vacation... Got to spend a few days with my daughter till everything went quiet in my intestines...  I was in the hospital for 4 days with a NG Tube and Cathater in my bladder, and neither of them were working.  Got out for 2 day and ended back up in the hospital for another 4 days with a NG Tube again.  They said my intestines had Ilius, or gas loops and nothing would work.  So out of the 8 days I had NG tubes for 6 of them.  I had so much blood coming out of me, all I could taste was blood all I could smell was blood, they left the tube in too long which made everything irritated and raw, so now I have burning from my stomach into my intestines.

I hope that it settles down and I dont know what caused everything to go so wrong when I was doing so well.  Has anyone had this happen.  Plus when I was in the hospital I was neglected so bad, could not get anyone to answer my buzzer.  My Jug that held the stuff from the NG tube was full of blood I was gagging and trying to vomit, but as you know if you have ever had a NG tube you cant throw up, so after a hr of going through hell and this happened more than once finally a nurse came in and said its shift change and you just have to wait....What the heck...I started yelling and screaming for someone to help me , I threw everything on my tray table at the door trying to get someone , had my room mate buzzing for nurses also...  When the nurse finally came in it was the new one on shift and she said did the other nurse come take care of you?  I said no!  So she went and grabbed that nurse and brought her into my room and gave her the what for... and reported her.  The new nurse was crying and apologizing for the lack of care that some of those nurses dont give.  She was so sweet to me and said that she would take good care of me and she did.  When my daughter got there she threw a fit and called the charge nurse and told her what had happened...and that heads were going to roll, and that we are calling a attorney and persuring a claim against the nurse and hospital.

I will never go to Ca again, the hospitals are just horrible... so still sick today and tomorrow is my Birthday....so I hope I feel good enough to visit with my son and his family...so say a prayer for me, cuz I need it and it would be greatly appreciated.

Love to all of you

LESLIE,

What the H---- This was in California?????? Jeeze! I am glad you are pressing charges and that the new nurse set wheels in motion for you.

Did you get a spontaneous ileus? Usually those only happen right after surgery. The only way one can happen out of the blue is by severe electrolyte imbalance.

The other thing that can cause this is that instead of ileus it is really a small bowel obstruction from an old adhesion.

In one of my MANY small bowel obstructions after my 2006 disaster "pelvic floor reconstruction surgery" later found out to me unneeded (suit is in full swing on that), I was for one small bowel obstruction at a MAJOR BOSTON HOSPITAL where the same thing happened to me. Blood in my NG tube. FINALLY had to get a student nurse to get her supervisor and the supervisor showed the student what to do if the floor nurse screwed up. Saved me and the student nurse learned at lot too, though she looked a bit green at the end of all this.

Hope you stay OK or find out the issue and get it resolved. I live in fear of reobstruction from small bowel adhesions but (wrap wood) so far so good and going on 3 years this AUgust that I had adhesion lysis and much needed ileostomy due to rectum and colon scarring from the 2006 surgery.

But so far have had no spontaneous ileus's. Tell us how it happened if you find out. Best wishes, Rosemary

Oh Leslie I am so sorry for the Hell you have been through! Thats just not good enough, but at least you finally got a nurse that gave a darn. I hope you get sorted soon and don't continue to be in pain. Happy Birthday for tomorrow and hope you can get to your sons for a celebration. Will say a prayer for you. Take care

Leslie, I am so sorry you went through that horrible experience.

When do you see your doctor about this? I don't think this is normal at all. Did you have your small intestines tested prior to the total colectomy? It seems strange that your bladder would also not work....It sounds like you may have an overall motility problem....have you googled your symptoms to see what pops up....

You need further testing that is for sure....so sorry you had to have your vacation ruined by the health issues. Tracy

Tracy  I appreciate the note.  No they did not test my small intestines for anything as far as I know,  I don't get to see my doc till the 27th of this month he is on vacation.  Good Idea I will Google my symptoms and see what comes up...thanks for the idea...
