I've been lurking on this forum for quite a while but haven't posted since my suffering with UC days!!

I'm curious if there is anyone on the board from Ontario Canada and if so how long have you been waiting for j-pouch surgery? I'm currently approaching a year!! Is this normal? I know that moving from temp ostomy to j-pouch is considered an "elective" surgery as opposed to urgent so I guess that means it's the bottom of the list for me however I really do want to get the next step over with if you know what I mean!!

I guess I just needed to vent but I am really curious how long others had to wait to get this surgery in the land of OHIP...
29 year old male, UC diagnosed after bad flare in Summer 2005, quickly brought into remission by pred and salofalk. 2 years symptom free after that!!
Bad flare started summer 07 and led to emergency surgery June 08 after ruptured colon.

Previous UC meds.... Salofalk, Imuran, Remicade, Buscopan, Pantoloc, Prednisone, etc...

Currently living with and ostomy and completely med free!!

Hi Numb78

My son (Dillon) and I are in Toronto. His surgeon is Helen MacRae at Mount Sinai. After having his colon removed (while being very sick) his J pouch surgery was 4 months later. We were told that usually the minimum time between the surgeries is 4 months and there is no max. Does your surgeon know that you really want to get this done. Maybe there is a miss communication? We did push hard for the 4 months but they really were accommodating. Is your surgeon at a Toronto hospital?
