My husband had swelling around in his stomach/lapro sites two weeks after surgery.  We were not sure it this was normal and went to see the doctor yesterday.  We were told that this is very normal--especially when the surgry is done laprascopically.  The doctor said that the stomach is pumped with carbon dixiode and it takes weeks for all of this to be absorbed.
We wanted those of you that are planning to have the surgery to know this happens.  My husband had surgery two weeks ago where his rectum was removed and anus sewen shut.  He is doing remarkably well and hopes to be 100% in another month.

Temper his expectations! 100% after a month of recovery is probably not going to happen. For most of us it takes several months, and for me, one full year, to say I was 100%.
