Hi all

Went in to have a baby in October and ended up with a cesarean and an illeostomy, after my bowel perforated.  I now have to wait for a reversal which will be at the end of April.  I do not like this bag at all, because of the leaks etc.  I have the district nurses still coming in to dress my laparotomy wound as it got infected!!!!!!!.  How do you all cope with showering and changing the bag.  I change it every other day.  It is not very easy when you have a screaming baby and trying to change the bag.  Any suggestions. I get quite miserable about all this.

Hi Rop

Sorry to hear about your problem but its pretty common to have leaks with illeostomy. It will eventually settle down. You can try using some of the skin barrier products like stomahesive paste or spray this will help the bag to stick a little better
Hope you feel better !

Thanks M, It just seems like a long wait.  I went back to see the surgeon and I am yet to get a date for the reversal.  I think and hope that it will be April, he was going to get back to me.  Do you know the procedures for a reversal and how you feel or what I should be expecting.  Looking forward to it though. Can they keep me waiting longer than April.

How are you doing?

Hey Rop!
I am awaiting reconnection too...yey! I had my op (1st of a 2-step) on Nov. 16, and would have had it Feb. 16, but i developed a fistula right after surgery, due to surgery (thankfully not CD), and its not yet healed, so i go month-to-month waiting to see how i do. If it isnt healed by April i will have surgery to fix it. Then reconnection. I have the same questions as you but you know the www.j-pouch.org website is awesome for those kinds of questions...have a looksee...hope its helpful.
