I have been drinking 2 to 2 1/2 liters of water per day and hardly any gatorade and have been fine. I did drink 12 ounces of gatorade yesterday, but that was because I felt weak from too much watery output and I got paranoid. I don't want to have to go to the hospital for IV's.

I read that drinking gatorade increases the chance of getting kidney stones. YIKES, I don't want kidney stones...but, I am worried about getting dehydrated when going back to work. The temps will be HOT, 120 degrees, on the school bus. I read that vitalyte is a great alternative to gatorade and much healthier to drink.

Has anyone tasted this? I was going to order some, grape flavor, unless somebody else has as any ideas?

Or, is pure water okay to drink? I can't imagine pouring sweat with my watery output, more than 1200cc in 24 hours, being safe without adding a drink containing electrolytes.

I bought some pedialyte and that is the most awful tasting stuff and I feel terrible for ever trying to get my poor kids to drink it. YUCK rolleyes

Thanks once again, Tracy

I only drink Vitalyte. I think the flavor choices are citrus, orange, punch, and lemonade. I like orange best. Citrus is the closest in flavor to plain water. Vitalyte is the healthiest of all electrolyte beverages on the market. If purchased in bulk, instead of packages, it's also fairly inexpenisve. You can order it online at www.vitalyte.com or buy at REI stores. Vitalyte got me in and out of the Grand Canyon in 107 degree heat amongst many other feats.

Suebear...you amaze me!

Tracy...I never heard of Vitalyte. Your output is still watery? One time I know I didn't drink enough fluid and my output looked like poop that used to come out of my rectum...ugh! It was so thick that I pushed open the wafer. Good thing I noticed it in time. After that, I got scared and started to force myself to drink more fluid. I HATE drinking water...never was one to drink much of anything. Maybe that is why it burns when I urinate.

Well, I ordered grape flavored vitalyte and it will be here Wednesday. It was very inexpensive and I am hoping I can handle the taste. Since I quit smoking, I have noticed certain foods taste better and certain foods taste horrible. Christine, I have NOT been able to eat cheese for the past few days because I just don't like the flavor anymore. This is so weird though because I loved cheese. :(

I have managed to thicken my stool up today by eating baby food bananas and a rice krispie treat. I had a hard time this morning though because I didn't eat for a few hours after I woke up and my body really rebels when I do this and fills my bag with green, liquid stomach bile. Luckily I can remedy this by eating before I even leave for work and by adding a jar of baby food bananas. I had to acquire a taste for these too. My issue is I have to be at work at 5:45am and I hate to eat this early. YUCK I am hoping a piece of toast will suffice. LOL

Ohio, is it because you quit smoking or do you think it is because of the ileostomy? Just curious.

I quit smoking long before my ileo...so I'd say after my proctocolectomy (I've had an ileo longer) my taste buds changed!

That's really weird about changing taste buds!

I have already had 2 kidney stones since my surgery 4 months ago. I have a history of kidney stones, though, from being on 6mp.

I drink mostly water, but one thing I've found that helps drink more water is to put in crystal light so it has a flavor.
