colostomy reversal?

have had a colostomy since nov 09. doing some test in august to see if my fistula situation has dried up enough to reverse. am i dreaming to think i still have muscle control down there? anyone know how long one can go with out and still get reversed and still have muscle control down there?

I have the same question. I am wanting to get mine reversed as well but have had mine since may 09. I do know that I still give off mucas and seem to be able to control when that comes out kinda.
Diagnosed with Crohns Oct. '07.  Have had 9 abcess/ fistula surgeries.  Colostomy 20 March 2009.
Current Meds:
Imuran 200 mg                            Omeprazole 20mg                     Vitamin D 2000 i.u.          Remicade 10mg x8wks
Synthroid 112mg                          Lexapro 20mg                           Tylenol  50mg
Birth Control                                 Calcium  500mg                         Morphine 40mg
Sucralfate 1gm x4                         Multi Vit                                     Cyclizine   50mg

Yes, you'll still have muscle control, it doesn't go away because you have an ostomy. BUT make sure that you only let a ColoRectal Surgeon touch that area! When we have fistulas there, an inexperienced surgeon could cause irreversible damage:( to the sphincter muscle.

What medications are you on for your fistula?

Dreamer~mucous is harder to control than regular waste...I could never control mine...glad you have luck with that!

im doing humira, xifaxin, imuran, pentasa, tetracycline, flagyl

read on here the other day that cipro and flagyl together might help. good to hear that i may still have muscle control down.
