I was feeling some discomfort for a few days in my rear. I went to the surgeon for my post op visit today and asked him if this were possible. He said "of course because you still have your anus." I thought the rectum and anus were the same thing...duh. I know I had my rectum removed. He didn't give me any advice though on treatment. I usually just use Tucks. Is it ok to use a Sitz bath?

you have the best posts. You also seem to be dealing with a ton of &%&%. I have heard of people taking Sitz baths, but I am not sure. Anyway, my friend came into my apartment the other day and saw I had this little container of baby wipes and desitin. He was like "You have a baby?" ... I am like yeah, me. It didn't help that the baby wipes container had a little frog on it wiping it's arse.

LOL....so you have them too huh? Have you eaten cole slaw yet? I did today but made sure I chewed well.....sort of hard to do. My mouth was watering for a Philly cheesesteak but I better give myself a few more weeks. My husband said I have the appetite of an elephant but I only eat a small amount and fill up fast. It must be the slow chewing. Gotta keep my ballerina body

haha i lost my ballerina body about a month ago. Christine, I eat everything. I got on the scale the other day and it told me to get the $*$# off ;) The chewing part is the hardest part. I usually swallow my food whole like a shark. My mom always says: "Did you even taste that?". I am happy things are working out for you.

Why did he leave your "hole" if you aren't going to use it???!!!! Yes, the Rectum and Anus are different body parts...do you ever plan on a j-pouch? Maybe that's why they left it?

I think if you google 'digestive tract' you can get some good diagrams of what is what! I've done it a million times and I can never remember how it all goes:(

Ohio....I have no idea why he left my "hole". If I could look up there, I would but it is difficult. During my first visit with the surgeon he flat out refused to do a j-pouch on me. He said it would be too stressful for my system because of my age, 63, and I had to undergo a stress test for my heart function. This may be due to the fact that I am situs inversus (all my organs are reversed) and he wanted to be sure I had no heart defect.

in my opinion sitz baths are worthless. :-)

I have one now and the more ignore it (no creams, etc.) it's OK.  I'll put it up inside of me if its really bothering me.  Cotton panties only!

When my hemorroids were really bothering me, I'd do sitz baths. They seemed to be soothing, for me. I got the water really really hot, as hot as i could stand it. and i'd sit there until the water cooled. I don't think it made them go away (they are still there even today, sitting dormant until, if ever, i get reconncted), but it did help when they were throbbing, and such.

I'm confused...if your rectum is removed and your "hole" is sewn up (as mine was), then how can you have an anus? Is it inside? I should know more about the human body...

Rectum comes before the Anus in the digestive tract...I am not sure how long it is, but it's not just the 'hole'.
