Did your surgeon leave your anus intact? Mine did and now I have hemorroids. I guess I overdid it with the walking when I was down the shore last week. I feel like I am regressing. A few of my stitches popped and the surgeon stuck a needle or something in them yesterday....I didn't watch...and he put some kind of salve on them. Today they are still oozing but I have no infection.

No, he did not leave my anus - it got removed and the hole was sewed shut.

maybe he left it thinking possibly you will be able to go for a reversal? Not too sure, but I would surely contact him.

Now this really has me baffled. He said he would NOT do a j-pouch on me because of my age. I told him I had no problem wearing the bag. Why the heck did he leave it there then?? UGH!!!

Mine is gone. Seems weird for you to have it still. Hope things get resolved!

hey there,, I still have mine too?  I am having problems with hemmroids inside and he mentioned me having "another"surgery to remove them???  I dont get it either? Why not just get rid of what ever is left and sew me up? Im in the same boat christine?  I am still having blood and mucus discharge and my surgery was 2 months ago. I dont want to go for another surgery!!  Sucks..   Im supposed to see him again this month and go from there...

Little sis....I mentioned my hemorroid to him and he didn't seem concerned about it at all! This guy is head of colorectal surgery at University of Pa Hospital in Philly and trained at the Cleveland Clinic and has been in practice for over 30 yrs. He wouldn't do a j-pouch on me and knows I have a perm ileo. I am soooo sorry I didn't ask him why he left the anus. I don't think it is blood coming out of me, it looks more like the stuff that was in the JP tube..pinkish. He said it takes quite awhile for that stuff to come out completely. I know it is coming out of my vagina but he said it is coming out of my anus...now I know the difference between my vagina and anus and I KNOW it isn't coming out of my anus....the only thing coming out of my anus is that hemorroid..lol. Oh GOD...if I didn't laugh at this I would be crying.

I had my rectum and anus removed a year after my initial surgery - good riddance to bad rubbish I say!
Ileostomy for 34 years due to UC. I had my surgery at 10 years of age.

I still have my anus and occaisionally get that bloody mucus coming out. They assured me that it was normal - also with time, it has lessened.
