Going back for a visit with my surgeon on Wednesday.  This time I certainly will ask him why he didn't close up my anus.  I am having a lot of discomfort down there and I also have what my family doctor listed as dysfuntional uterine bleeding.  I definitely had blood coming out last Wednesday.    I walked out of my regular gyn doctor's office on Tuesday because of the ridiculous wait.  I saw my family doctor on Thursday and she is sending me to another gyn doctor. UGH!  Called that office on Thursday and they have no openings until September!  In the meantime, I have a lot of discomfort not only in the anus but in the vagina and although the bleeding was only that one day, I still have a yellowish discharge.  Could this be all related to my surgery???  Geez!

Christine, I am thinking you should not be having any discomfort in your vaginal area at all. I would assume it is related to your surgery since it has been going on since day 1, but I am not positive. I wish you could get seen sooner...maybe you should go back to your other gyn if you can get in sooner. I hate waiting too. UGH It just seems so selfish to overbook like they do.

The reason I think it is related to the surgery is that I did some reading about dysfunctional uterine bleeding and it said that trauma in that area could cause bleeding and God knows the surgery was traumatic.  Anyway, let's hope and pray it isn't anything serious because I certainly would not be able to undergo another surgery anytime soon.

Sorry to hear this, Christine ... i hope that everything works out for you. I am actually quite curious myself as to why they left your anus and didn't close you up. I am wondering if they had thoughts of possibly reconnecting you, but that wouldn't make any sense. Anyway, again, hope all works out!

Makes me wonder too Anthony since my surgeon said the j-pouch would be too risky for me and I told him I had no problem wearing a bag.
I went to my  pharmacy this morning and was speaking with the woman pharmacist and she said  most likely this bleeding stems from the surgery.  However, when she said that everything in there is exposed to the air during surgery I thought of our neighbor..gulp.  He had cancer of the esophagus which was diagnosed after they opened him up.  Well, he never left the hospital because the cancer grew like wild fire.  I know I shouldn't have these morbid thoughts and since they performed a CT scan in the hospital of the lower portion of my body because one night there I had a fever of 105, pulse of 152 and blood pressure of 70/40, and nothing showed up on the CT scan.  I was fine the next day and they never did figure out what caused this.  My ostomy nurse who came to my house said they were the signs of septic shock... shocked ...news to me!
I am bleeding again today.  My husband is sooo disgusted with these gyn doctors.  I just cannot wait another month.  I am glad I'm going to my surgeon on Wed.
