I had a temporary colostomy surgery on 7/29, and have been doing pretty well.  On Friday, I started having symptoms of a urinary tract infection and saw my doctor.  I was put on Cipro, and have been feeling better in that regard.  Sunday, I passed quite a bit of mucous (I still have my rectum), and had a little bit of cramping.  This morning, I have pain a few inches below my navel.  It is constant, and has increased slightly in intensity.  Any ideas/suggestions?

Hi Glori,
It's still early days for you, and the mucous coming from your rectum is normal. I had my surgery 17 months ago now and it seems its all a distant memory now but then had my rectum removed 13 months ago. Are you still on any strong pain meds? I was sent home with some endone and took them as needed. One thing that helped me a lot was a heat pack on my tummy and nice cup of tea, but if the pain doesn't ease up I would call the doc and get checked out for piece of mind. Also if you were on prednisone prior to surgery it does slow down the healing process, I was still on it after surgery and was weened of it slowly as I had been on it for years. Hope this helps a bit, but if in doubt call your doc. Take care and keep us posted
Doreen :-)
