Just wondering how much time people have had off work after having a colostomy/ileostomy? I'll have been off for two months by the end of September and I'm not sure if I'm gonna be ready to go back or should get another month off. I work on the checkout at a supermarket so I do a lot of lifting and twisting, etc. So, how much time did everyone have off, and what jobs do you do?

Also, how much time do people tend to have off work when they've had the reversal, is it a bit less than for the initial op?

Oh, and while I'm here, does anyone elses get back ache after they've been walking around for a while? I suppose it's because the back is making up for the lack of work being done by stomach muscles when trying to stand up straight and stuff. So many questions! Thanks! :D

I was off work for 3 weeks after my colectomy/ostomy and then an additional 3 weeks for the reversal. I have a desk job so returning to work was expedited by my ability to sit as much as I wanted.

I think your back issues are due to the position your back is place in during surgery (a back bend). I took an IV anti-inflammatory after surgery as the back pain outweighed the incisional pain by about 10 to 1!

I had back pain following my first surgery but I think mine was caused by the way I walked around hunched over a bit due to the incision. It took about three or four weeks for it to go away. Try a heating pad.

I was out of work for about 5 weeks, and I was incredibly sick (92 lbs) on the day of surgery, so I was pretty weak.

I was working as a dancer at Disney World at the time, which is one of the most physically demanding jobs you can have.  I was fine after 5 weeks.

After my revision in June I went back after 3.

I went home after 9 days, took 2 weeks of being "sick" time and then worked on opening the shop. 8 week's after surgery I opened my automotive repair shop.
