To those of you who do not have your anus sewn closed

     Brian's surgeon told him that  there is a high percentage of cancer among people who have had ostomies and not had their anus sewn closed.  My surgeon left mine intact as he said there are more complications when sewn closed.  I just would like more input from others on this.
     I still have leakage and some pressure in the anus (not as bad as when I had the abcess though).  My surgeon wants to see me in December.  Wonder if I should mention this to him???  I am very much concerned because my grandmother died from cancer of the rectum and I always had an issue with internal and external hemorrhoids but am not having a problem with them now.  My colon and rectum were removed and I have a permanent ileo.

I have not heard that. I have my anus. If I ever see my surgeon again I will have to ask about that.

     That's a relief Dan..lol.  Did you have any problems post surgery with abscesses in the anus?  Any leakage?  I went back on the Flagyl.
