Hi all,

so the skin around my stoma and under my wafer looks scaly and looks wrinkled and like it has a film over it (which I know it doesn't). I do not use skin prep, or any lotions or creams or anything at all.
Recently I've been itching there a lot! It's driving me insane and I went to see my ET nurse today. She said it looks like it's almost dry skin or I'm having a reaction from the wafer. I've done the skin tests and this wafer didn't seem like it was bad for me (using Coloplast xpro).
She recommended to put a layer of Sween cream on and rub it in good before I put my wafer on. Said that it would help hydrate and keep the skin healthy. I've used benzoin and gold bond powder before.

Anyone have issues like this with scaly looking skin under the wafer? Ever used Sween cream?

Thanks!

This is really wierd, I have been wondering the same thing. I have been having some issues lately and I am using the cream for it. I accually had some irritation and itching around my stoma. It really wasn't the wafer, it is the area where the collar is outside the wafer. Anyway, since I started using the cream it is healing nicely.
I was introduced to the Sween cream last summer (2009). My daughter had some bug bites or something around her ankles. A little lady that lives close to my mother seen them and gave some of it to us to put on her legs and it worked amazingly well. We use it for lots of other things too.
I have not put it on and then put the wafer over it, (I am afraid it would not let the wafer stick). I wear a belt and just apply the wafer and cut the collar part off and then I can put the cream where the breaking out is. If it works out for you let me know.
I hope you get healed. It can be irritating with the itching.

I have the same problem!!!  I've been using Walgreen's triple action antibiotic cream and it is working fine.

I had some breaking out and itching on Wednesday when I changed. I used the Sween Cream and by Saturday it was looking great.

Ok, now to get my hands on some! Any recommendations on where to get it from other than Amazon and my Ostomy Supplier?
