I am having dark output when I empty my bag. It is either black or a dark reddish brown. It is not watery. When I changed my bag yesterday my stoma was bleeding at the bottom and in the middle. It took me several minutes to get it to stop coming out of the bottom so I could put a new ring and wafer on. Could this be causing the dark output. Should I be worried. This is the first time I have noticed my stoma bleeding this much.

stomas can bleed a lot, even the tiniest little bump can set them off, might have been peggy that got hers with her fingernail during a change and it bleed for like an hour.

I have had some fiber a few days this week that I worried about. Whole Grain Bread. I try to avoid it mostly but I thought I would try it. It could have irritated my intestines I guess.

I doubt the bread irritated your gut so much that you are having intestinal bleeding from it. I eat it all the time, with no problems.

Try to think of dark things you ate or drank. Like chocolate-that really makes my output dark.

As I have found out through the forum, coffee makes a very black output, are you a coffee drinker?

coffee gives me a dark output too, but if the bleeding continues I would definitely have it checked out.

Whenever I drink a dark drink my output turns really really dark.

I bruise all the way around my stoma. I did with my 1st one and now on this one also.

When I eat fiber or nuts...my stoma will bleed from the center for 3 or 4 days-and it feels as though something sharp is or has rubbed it raw inside. I avoid high fiber bread now-especially since my colorectal surgeon said he sees the most obstructions caused by breads. Yikes!

I hope you feel better soon!
Please let us know what you find out.
