I had a transverse colosomy about four years ago,and everything seemed to go well.  Last week I had an intense urge for a bowel movement, nothing happened.  Then the urges became more frequent and some stuff would come out.  The urges arre now about an hour apart and each time about a tabespoon of material comes out.  I don't think it s mucous.  If it looks like s----,smell s like****, it must be ****  any ideas??????

Doesn't sound good. Get it checked.
Those things we keep trying to do get easier not because the feat gets easier but our ability to "do" gets better.

the little amount that comes out, is it very hard and dry? or is it soft? i'm asking b/c if it's really hard and dry, then it could be your rectum is compressed with hard and dry stools - just an occasional constipation that can be easily solved with a simple fleet enema or a suppository. but if it's soft or liquidy, and still you can't push it out, then that can be a different story.

first thing, it could be that it's just a one time thing, so try to wait and see if it solves on it's own. if it doesn't, and starts causing you significant discomfort and pain, then i suggest you do a fleet enema/use a suppository to release it.

an occasional constipation can happen every once in a while to any body, but as long as it only rarely happens, then there's nothing to worry about.

i think you'd may want to wait a while, maybe it's just a one time thing and will go away. only if it continues and becomes a premanent condition, then you should see a gastro doc who specialises in motility of the digestive system and esp in pelvic floor dysfunctions, or a colorectal surgeon. they can do some dinamic x rays and other tests that can find what exactly causes the obstructed defecation.

BTW, have you reciently delivered a baby?

so meantime, try to wait and see if it works out on it's own, and if not, then don't hesitate to do a small enema/suppository.

hope it works out on it's own and very soon!

I would go to your local ER and tell your doc you will meet him or her there. Rosemary

oops, sorry, thought you were a female.. i'm not sure i understood you correctly, do you still have a colostomy? is it a loop colostomy? do you still have your rectum? how much of it do you still have?

do you still feel a bulge in your rectum? it could be there's a peace of hard stools stuck and the soft runny stuff that is coming out is the mucos that usually surrounds/covers the stools (it can also be brown) - there are situations in which the stools is hard and can't pass, but the mucos that surrounds it does - it happened to me and that's what the doc told me.

but i'm only guessing and assuming here and we have no way to really know what is it and what caused it to happen all of a sudden (plus, a lot of details are missing). so i think you better see your doc soon. let us know how things go.
