Dx'd Crohn's in '99 at age 28. Proctocolectomy and permanent ileostomy in '06.
Disease-free and medicine-free since surgery and very thankful to be healthy again.

I wish I was as cheery as you guys!! I keep trying to be grateful but so much of my life has changed that it still seems hard to me.

I appreciate you sharing your optimism and hope you all the best in 2011!!

Hubby is a newbie to all of this but so far so good. With the exception of a weak back at the moment everything else seems to be going ok.

It is such a relief to finally see him out of constant pain and the frustration and it certainly has made my life a lot less anxious.
64 yr old male --suffered with UC & in May 06 had a severe flare & hospitalized 6 days...various prednisone treatments leading to steroid dependence and osteopenia, 12 asacol, 200 mg Imuran, failed remicade infusions Jan-May 2010 Dependence on pain meds. Made decision in 6/10 to have surgery which was on 12/17/10 (permanent ileostomy - unable to have the j-pouch) and no longer in pain.

I can tell all of of you I am very happy with  my health too!! Like most of you I have had a few rough streches but iIwas able to get to Colorado (from TX) and snowmobile with my sons over Christmas and I did NOT have to keep a look out for the next bathroom at every exit! My excersize program is continuing and my 2011 goal is to bow hunt for elk in September on top of the Rocky Mts. Keep up the positive attitude all you  newbies it does get better with time. This is also a great place to learn and VENT! when needed. My new line for everyone who wants to know how I am, is... "I'm Great...  I'm not perfect...but then neither are you!"......... Stay healthy my friends

i had to go to the dr for strep (booo!!!) but she gave me antibiotics of course, wonderful to not expect a trip to the hospital for that, and then she asked why i had an ileo, and i said, i had UC, and she says, ok so you have UC, i said, no no, i HAD UC!!!
my fav sentence!
UC for 8 years, before finally kicking its butt and having a permanent ileostomy April 17 2007!

Another UC Wife....

Just to let you know Dillon had major back pain (and he was only 18) after his first surgery. Slowly, very slowly, it disappeared. It is no longer an issue at all. I do not know if was to do with the surgeries or the prednisone, because he was having some back pain before the surgery, but the take home message is that is has COMPLETELY gone away....please let your husband know.

Summerstorm.... I am sorry you are sick but isn't it wonderful, like you said, to just need some antibiotics and not expect a trip to the hospital!.....I do hear that you guys (actually just about everyone in the States) have gotten a TON of snow....TOO BAD that you do not live up here in the Canadian North!!!
