First of all, wow-- finally think I found a place to not feel so out of place. cool

Ok- after 7 surgeries on the intestines, I have 12 inches of large intestine left.  I have an ileostomy which is supposed to be reversed in a few weeks, but I am interested in what life is like/advice for what things will be like when I am put back together.

thanks, jules

What was the reason for your surgery?

I have no large colon and no rectum left and have a jpouch constructed with 9 inches of small intestine. I function just fine. Frequency is higher than those with a colon but doesn't interfere with my daily routine. I imagine you still have your rectum? You can probably expect higher frequency. My surgery was for refractive ulcerative colitis.

Welcome, Jules! I can't answer your question, because I had my colon and rectum removed due to Crohn's and have a permanent ileostomy, but someone will be along soon to help you out! I just wanted to welcome you to the colon-free zone! smilewinkgrin

Dx'd Crohn's in '99 at age 28. Proctocolectomy and permanent ileostomy in '06.
Disease-free and medicine-free since surgery and very thankful to be healthy again.

My original surgery was for diverticulitis.  I went home with an undiagnosed leak and returned to the hospital 2 days later pretty septic-- from there I had a colostomy and a midline open wound.  I had a few subsequent surgeries to get back together and wound and hernia repairs.  In November, I had a leak from my original anastomosis and lost most of my colon.  i have an ileostomy right now.  thanks for the responses!!!!
