I got a temporary colostomy in October of 2010 after a motorcycle accident left me with severe damage to my rear end. I woke up to be notified by a nurse that I was now an Ostomate.
No one told me this piece of advice; contact the ostomy supplies companies. All of the companies are happy to send you a ton of samples and will have a Ostomy nurse follow up with you by phone. Convatech has now set me two different sets of samples because the first set wasn't a perfect fit. Coloplast also sent me two packages.
From what I understand, Hollister products are very commonly given to hospitals but please don't expect those are your only options. And there is no need to pay for these supplies when you don't know if they will work for you.
