Hey, I am a 17 year old post colectomy patient. I had an ostomy for about three months almost two years ago and then had the reversal surgery. This is more of a lifestyle question than a need for medical advice.
I'm not very healthy these days and so to get away from the life I have now I dream. My dream is to become a surgeon one day just like the one who saved my life. I would LOVE to work with pediatrics like myself but I worry very much that it will be too hard. That I wont be healthy enough, and will have too many restrictions to do what I dream of. If there are any j-pouch patients similar to me who are doctors I would love to hear from you! Whether you went through med school with or without the pouch doesn't matter. I just really need to know my dream isn't as dead as my colon(haha). Right now is a really tough time for me and one thing that would make me feel better would be to know that I can still have the life I want and dream of even though it may be tougher.
If you could give me some experiences with the two that would be wonderful. I just need something to hope for. Thanks.
