Hey everyone.. Just wondering if any of yall know how this would go... Eating pistachios and chewing VERY well with my J pouch? I feel like they are a little bit of a softer nut?

Anyways I just tried like 5 of them 3 mins ago just to see how it goes... I LOVE pistachios, hoping it goes well...

Anybody have any experience or knowledge?

I don't have my j-pouch yet, but I know that there are many people that do have j-pouches that can eat nuts without a problem. But they do bother others. So just don't eat anything else that might cause issues until you've passed the pistachios and then you'll know if they are ok to eat. :) I eat nuts all the time with my temp colostomy, but it is a different situation so i'll have to try them slowly once I'm in you're boat. Good luck!!

I have had my jpouch for 10 years and there is not a food out there that I cannot eat. A good rule of thumb for new pouchers is to try new foods in small quantities and see how they work. In the first year I had a couple of partial obstructions caused by fresh oranges and pineapple, but I no longer have them. I'm usually not too careful about how I chew but I never was in the early pouch days either. You should be able to eat anything and everything including popcorn, but go slow in the beginning.

I don't have a j-pouch, I have a perm ileo, but I followed a similar rule to suebear's.

Small quantities and see how it goes and once you know they're ok you can increase a little more the next time:)

I eat Peanuts, Cashews and Almonds all the time. Keep a diary for a little while that way you won't worry when you try new foods.

Happy eating:):)
