After 6 weeks, my wound vac was finally removed yesterday. I had a surgery in January to remove the deep dissolving sutures in my abdominal wall that my body had rejected and formed an abscess around. The vac worked wonders to heal the resulting open incision, but I am glad to finally be rid of it. Now I just have to pack the tiny remainder of the wound for another week or so, and I should be done! I celebrated today by going for a hike. I feel so free!
On top of that, if all continues to go well, my surgeon said I should have no trouble going on a week-long backpack trip in the beginning of September. (I am into ultra-light backpacking so my pack won't be that heavy). I am so psyched. Life is finally returning to normalcy. I have no idea how backpacking with an ostomy appliance will be, but I look forward to figuring it out.
