Can anyone tell me about what a flare is like when you have Crohn's and an ostomy?

My daughter has an ileostomy for a little over a year now due to Indeterminate colitis. Recently she came off antibiotics and I noticed that she has some white blisters on her stoma. Her skin around the stoma is a little irritated but not too much, and her output is very watery. I wouldn't say it's D though, since I'm not emptying it more than usual.

Her doctors said it could be Crohn's or just a reaction to the antibiotics.

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what they experience.
thank you

Is it a course of antibiotics she has just finished? Antibiotics are well known to cause stomach upsets and in an ileo this can make output watery. The blisters though, I have no idea. Even when I flare, like at the moment, I haven't had that as a symptom but others might have. If things settle down in a few days then I would say probably result of the antibiotics.

Ensure she is drinking plenty of fluids as even slight change of output can cause dehydration, you could try those hydration sachets from chemist if concerned. Also probiotics are useful as antibiotics upset the balance of good bacteria in the gut and probiotics can help rebalance it. Have read that some doctors recommend probiotics be taken when using antibiotics to protect the gut bacteria.

I asked this same question with white spots on Stoma awhile back. Still don't know for sure but I have decided it sure feels like a flare did from before. (I have crohn's and ileostomy)

Waiting for march 30th to see GI Dr.

I need to sleep way more and some foods bother me again . Arthritis worse and very watery output. I bought that plain greek yogart today I thought I would treat myself. I usually just get the regular plain or make my own.

Hope she's better soon.

Hi, also answered on CD thread for you, but when I am in flare I get same pain in ileum that is left as I had before but not as bad. I would just monitor for week or so and see if it clears up on it's own. If it gets any worse or other symptoms appear then go back to your doctor.

Hope everything settles down soon for both of you. Can be scary when your body decides to do it's won thing for no reason. I've stopped trying to figure and understand my body as it does what the hell it wants, when it wants and most of the time does it to confound the medical profession! Has reactions it shouldn't have, respnds to stuff to shouldn't do, now have my own abbreviation on notes, NFK, which stands for 'Normal for K*****'.
