Hi everyone just wanted to update everyone on my daughter.  It has been 4 weeks since my daughters surgery.
She is doing great.  I took her out her third week home and she realized she could eat and empty it while she was out.  She has been doing great since.  Havent't been home all week, had something to do everynight.  It is so nice to see the smile on her face and the sparkle in her eyes again.  I never thought I would be writing this but to who ever is thinking about surgery and is afraid, take it from me.  I was never so scared for her and didn't want her to have it.  It was the best thing she could have done. Yes it is hard at first, she is 15 but you would never have known she had just had major surgery.   You don't know how greatful I am to all of you for all your advice and support.  Thank you everyone.

Wonderful news!  It is a VERY tough decision.  I cannot imagine having to make that sort of decision for my child, bad enough I had to make it for myself.  My husband and daughter were my cheerleaders.  They pushed me in this direction.  If it weren't for them, I probably would still be sitting on those port a pots, having urgency, bleeding and wondering what med my GI doctor is going to put me on next.  I had a few blips but feel soooo awesome now.
Wishing your daughter a long and happy, healthy life yeah !!!

Absolutely Wonderful! Thanks for checking in and letting us know how she is doing.
64 yr old male suffered with UC & in May 06 had a severe flare & hospitalized 6 days...various prednisone treatments leading to steroid dependence and osteopenia, 12 asacol, 200 mg Imuran, failed remicade infusions Jan-May 2010 Dependence on pain meds. Made decision 6/10 to have surgery which was on 12/17/10 (total proctocolectomy & ileostomy - unable to have the j-pouch) and no longer in pain.

Yay, this is so great to hear! I hadn't heard from her by email in a little while so I was wondering. Not so "worried" mom anymore, huh? It's about time she got her life back!
Diagnosed with UC in 2007
Flare in 2007 causing anemia requiring blood transfusions, eventually controlled by asacol and 6-MP.
Flared again in 2009 as 6-MP lost effectiveness, went on TPN and received more blood. Started Remicade, which induced remission.
Flared 2010; Remicade no longer effective.
Had 1st surgery of 3 step j-pouch at CC on 1/19/11. 2nd slated for April, and j-pouch in July!
