Sue, I was wondering if after you have a j-pouch if your body every gets used to certain foods. For example, for me tomatoes sting when they come out and chocolate makes my stools very, very watery. If that is the case, will it always be like that or do things every change with time? Of course, I still eat both and live with the consequences :-) Just curious.

Good question, I would like to know that, too.  Scrap Girl, do you take Immodium at all?  Right now I take from 1-2 a day.  Are there any other foods that give you problems?  I WON'T give up chocolate or tomatoes.

I have never had butt burn but my understanding is, for those that do, that it does get better and improve with time. For those that continue to have butt burn issues it can be helped by eating a metamucil wafer before eating a butt burn meal. It appears that the fiber binds the burning elements and reduces the pain.

But as for chocolate, yes, it always makes things looser. And I won't give up chocolate so I just know to expect it. That would be for bar-like chocolate. For chocolate that is in cakes and donuts, I don't see the loosening effect; maybe because there is not much real chocolate in those products?

Disneynutt, I rarely take immodium now. I did take it for a bit probably a month after takedown if I was going out for dinner because for quite a while I would still get those urges that made me feel like I had UC again and I didn't want that to happen when I was out. Those have subsided quite a bit now. When I have taken Immodium I've only taken one at a time and to tell you the truth, I'm not sure I can tell a difference. Maybe if I'd taken more than one it would have. When I had my second surgery I had to take a lot of immodium because I had really, really high output. But things evened out in a couple weeks and I didn't have any major issues after that. I couldn't even tell you how many times I go a day because it's really not an issue at all so that's another reason I haven't stuck with the Immodium routine.
Sue, thanks for the reply. Fortunately, the tomatoes don't leave a rash or anything and it's not unbearable or even bad enough to make me not want to eat them. And it's weird to because I can eat chips and salsa at most restaurants and be fine but just feel it when I have chopped up tomatoes in the salsa at Chipolte.
