I have had clear yellow bag after bag of ileostomy diarrhea for the past few hours.

This has happened before when I have not had any flu. I am now just getting over a bronchial type virus/flu but have so far not had any nausea or stomach upset; not to say that the diarrhea can't be part of it. But I have not been hungry and have not eaten very much for about a week.

Does anyone else have large amounts of clear yellow digestive juice output just from being hungry?

I tried two pieces of white toast and am hoping this acts as a sponge effect. I have learned that if I take immodium to not do it too soon within eating otherwise the effluent gets way too thick and I have to "chase it out" with grape juice. So for now I am just trying the toast. That sometimes works.

Anyone battled these 2 scenario's before?

Thanks, Rosemary

It's bile. Because you haven't been eating anything much, the stomach juices still have to digest something and bile it is. Nothing to worry about :)
Ileostomy for 34 years due to UC. I had my surgery at 10 years of age.

Shaz, So secret is to keep a little something in your stomach a lot of the time even if you're not hungry while having a head flu. Then the bile has something to work on? Is this right?

Thanks, Shaz

Yep- I get that yellow bile output too on an empty stomach. In fact, it is the reason I really can't change my pouch first thing when I get up. Way too liquidy if my stoma starts to act up. I change my pouch when I get home from work because at least if my stoma starts to spew it is thick and easy to deal with instead of that liquid yellow stuff.
-Officially diagnosed with UC in 2006, though had symptoms since 1999.
-Had mild/moderate symptoms continuously until severe flare in autumn 2010 which required 2-week hospital stay
-Took Asacol, Rowasa, Canasa and Prednisone to manage flares but meds stopped working
-Tried 1 infusion of Remicade but had excruciating joint pain and discontinued
-Had permanent ileostomy surgery 11/8/2010

Hi Blueheron,

Thanks for your confirmation too. You are right. If a stoma starts to be active with thick effluent it is a LOT easier to wipe that away when the pouch changing process is going on.

This is what I have figured out so far with my ileostomy stoma: so the yellow liquidy output can be from being too empty......this can be solved by eating some bready stuff for me anyway. This also happens to me if I have any fake sugars or too much real sugar or caffeine. I also have to not eat anything too dense like potato or I get a stomal food blockage.

If the fast liquidy yellow output starts and I have triggered it by accidentally drinking caffeine (as in ordering decaf but mistakenly being given caffeine) then it seems like I have to take immodium if the diarrhea does not stop on its own. I have learned not to eat any food with a few hours of taking immodium otherwise the effluent gets so thick I have to drink a ton of grape juice to get it to move along. One time this happened to me and when it finally did move along, it was as thick as normal poop (out of someone with a rectum and a colon).

These are all the things I have learned that I NEVER WANTED TO KNOW!!!! LOL!!!
