After a second colonic transit test has come back 'normal'.. my doctor is now suggesting i have something called SIBO or SBBO - small bowel bacterial overgrowth and I'm starting on antibiotics tomorrow. I'm not getting a breath test yet, as have to travel to London for it and he wants to do a therapeutic trial with the antibiotics to see if it works.
Apparently it is something which can happen after bowel surgery, esp ileostomy - and common in those with crohns, diabetes etc. It doesn't seem that it can be cured though, so the treatment is alternating antibiotics - month on, month off - forever :-( A friend of mine who is a GP in the UK has never heard of it..
My symptoms tick some of the boxes, but the main symptom is diahorrea which I don't have. I'm also now concerned I have some nutrition deficiencies going on as feeling very breathless, rapid heartrate etc... so getting some bloods done too.
The only thing that makes me think it might be possible, is that when I've had antibiotics for other things over the last 6 months, the bloating has gone down a bit.
Does anyone know of this or anyone got it???
