I have a hernia from my ostomy and today while walking I started to get this pain. It felt like that running side ache you get, but it was the underside of my hernia. My doc says that if it gets a kink or something it will hurt. Is this what he means. It doesn't really hurt much now but I've never had any pain and I am a little worried. But I also don't want to spend my weekend in the ER if I don't have too. Does anyone know what this means?!

dreamer,

I have an ileostomy. I don't know if yours is ileo or colostomy. So far I have no peristomal hernia but a friend of mine does. Try lying on your back. If you do have a peristomal hernia, you should feel better lying on your back as all the bowel kinked up in back of the stoma will just flatten back when you lie down.

Lay on your back and relax. If you are wearing a hernia belt, loosen it a bit. I get those sharp pains as well.
However, be weary of a burning pain.
