all:

Any preferences between "EZ Vents" and built in filters for pouches?  Seems to me either would be better for keeping gas down and keeping blow-outs from happening due to too much gas.....

Any information would be great.  scool

As I"m barely two weeks past surgery, I've stayed away from gas producting foods via advice from WOCN...but, eventually, will try and eat brocolli and related......so, want to be prepared....
enigma!

I love the ez vents. I even think some people reuse them. I have a loop ileo but I produce lots of gas. Tried to figure out the cause but I always have been a "gassy" person. I make up a months worth at a time. The built in filters do not work for me so I cover them up

I love the EZ vents. I have pouches with filters, but still use the EZ vents, as the filters get clogged after a day or so and then I need some way to release the gas. Hate opening the tail or "tupperware" ring to do it.

As far as gassy foods, you just have to experiment. I was careful at first, but found that gassy foods really don't make much of a difference for me. My pouch balloons up a bit all the time anyway, and doesn't seem much worse when I eat broccoli, black beans or drink carbonated beverages etc.

Also, I had A LOT of gas pains in the 8 weeks after surgery, but they have gone away now that everything is healed up.
-Officially diagnosed with UC in 2006, though had symptoms since 1999.
-Had mild/moderate symptoms continuously until severe flare in autumn 2010 which required 2-week hospital stay
-Took Asacol, Rowasa, Canasa and Prednisone to manage flares but meds stopped working
-Tried 1 infusion of Remicade but had excruciating joint pain and discontinued
-Had permanent ileostomy surgery 11/8/2010
