I am a chinese women and have severe constipation, I already isssued the ticket on June 15 to find colorectal doctor in Hong Kong. However, I have severe severe constipation now, and the laxative is not working. I consult several doctors in Hong Kong, all said I can't do it without clean up the poop, only one doctor said I can do it without clean up the poop. Am I trust her ? I want to fly back as soon as possible, I really couldn't stand it. I already have many many many dates no bowel movement, and the laxative always not working. I really suffer enough.

Anyone do the surgery without clean up the poop, please give me a feedback.

Thank you.

hi smarty,

most surgeons will ask to do the clean out prepration before the surgery, but there are few who don't. it depents on the instruments the surgeon uses in the surgery. my surgoen also said i don't need to do any prep. he said that he uses an instrument that when cutting the colon out, it staples both ends and shuts it closed, so no stools can pour into the abdomen. i was still freaked out that maybe something can go wrong and poop will pour into the abdomen, so i preffered going in as clean as possible, so i went on clear liquids 3 days before surgery, then 2 days before surgery took my cocktail of laxs. i know i still wasn't all cleaned out, but it was best i could do.

whatever the surgeon you're seeing sais, tell him you preffer doing the prep.

My surgeon said the same thing as Hodaya's.  His assistant told me to take the Miralax prep but when I went in for my pre-op testing, my surgeon said...."no prep needed....just clear liquids for 24 hours."  WOW..sounded good to me, but for good measure, I was on clear liquids for 48 hours pre op.  By the way, my surgeon is head of colorectal surgery at the Univ of Pa hospital in Philadelphia and trained at the Cleveland Clinic.  I had the utmost trust in him.

tough call.....I thought I was going to do a prep before surgery, but my health would not allow it!
I was in emergency room (for other, but related symptoms, from my colon) for tingling, high heart rate,, I got admitted the day before surgery....they had me on a liquid diet...the last solid food I had was almost 48 hours prior to surgery...the nurses/doctors said "we can control things in the hospital..can't control them when you are at home..hence..the necessity for a prep...."
Hope your situation gets cleared up soon....
