Gas pain can be terrible after surgery! Are you taking any pain medicine? If you are and it's not helping, then you should call your surgeon's office to let them know what's going on.
Dx'd Crohn's in '99 at age 28. Proctocolectomy and permanent ileostomy in '06.
Disease-free and medicine-free since surgery and very thankful to be healthy again.

definitely call the ward and either get them to check you out or just for some reassurance... let us know how you get on.. good luck!

I, too, had very bad gas pains in the first few days after my reversal. The first night in the hospital wasn't too bad, because I was so drugged up. But the second night in the hospital, I spent the entire night walking the wards trying to alleviate the pain. Even after my bowels opened up that next morning, the gas didn't really subside, despite the fact that I must have had something around 15 bowel movements. When I got home (four days after the surgery), I still had pretty bad gas pains, similar to what you're describing, for about a month afterwards. All I can say is that I got back into pretty good shape, even without getting back to the gym, because I walked three times a day for an hour a day, just to get the gas away. It is uncomfortable as all heck, but it does, eventually, go away. I had my ileostomy for about 10 weeks only, and my surgeon told me that the gas pains are just the bowels trying to get back to normal after having (as she put it) "been on vacation" for that time.

Good luck and good recovery!

I'm sure it isn't easy to try to walk but if it is gas that will help.

However, don't feel like you're being a pest....you need to call if you think something is wrong. Write it down so when you go to explain you have the details in front of you. When you're in pain it's tough to focus and concentrate and articulate what you mean to say sometimes.
64 yr old male suffered with UC & in May 06 had a severe flare & hospitalized 6 days...various prednisone treatments leading to steroid dependence and osteopenia, 12 asacol, 200 mg Imuran, failed remicade infusions Jan-May 2010 Dependence on pain meds. Made decision 6/10 to have surgery which was on 12/17/10 (total proctocolectomy & ileostomy - unable to have the j-pouch) and no longer in pain.
