I am just three days out of having my (unattached) jpouch removed and a permanent ileostomy placed. right now i have an NG tube and have not eaten since wednesday. while im really anxious about eating again, i'm also nervous... i got an illus when i was in the hospital last time, and that was so painful! so i'm hoping to avoid any type of stricture. any suggestions for what i should be eating over the next few weeks? i was briefly on the Low Reside diet, but don't remember the secrets and would love some help.
Thanks for your time,

First six weeks no fresh fruits and veggies, bananas would be ok though. No stringy meats, no nuts or popcorn. I have trouble with fried mozerrala sticks and stringy cheese, but not cheese melted in pasta or on pizza. After that introduce things slowly and drink a lot an eat a piece of bread with soemthing that might cause a blocakge I guess the bread does something I don't really know but I've read that on here a lot.
UC for 8 years, before finally kicking its butt and having a permanent ileostomy April 17 2007!

I noticed you said your having your J-pouch removed and getting a permanent ileostomy? I just got a temporary ileostomy with a J-Pouch. I was wondering how long you had you temporary ileostomy? I wish they would have just given me a permanent one but they didn't.

Love to hear what you have to say about this.

Praying that You do not have any problems with this surgery and wishing you all the best.

like summer said, no fiberous foods such as fresh fruits/veggies, no seeds, nuts, grains, no whole grain bread or rice - anything that's whole grain. also no any kind of beans. cooked carrots and zuccini (w/o the skin) are totally safe. drink A LOT. feel good and let us know how you're doing.
