How long do I need to wait after having my Jpouch removed and a permanent ileostomy placed before I can have sexual intercourse again? As a female, should I anticipate having any pain/discomfort? Is there any risk of harm with having sex that I should be aware of???

You should probably ask your doc on the length of time...but you shouldn't experience any discomfort or pain. If you do, you'd want to ask your doc, too.

I am not aware of any harm that can be done...good luck!

I waited about 10 weeks... but I has some painful abdominal incision healing woes which affected the timing of that. I did ask my surgeon about it just to make sure, and I would recommend that. It seems like an uncomfortable question, but remember that they have answered the question hundreds of times before. I experienced no discomfort, and it actually felt better than with UC because I had a lot of constant abdominal pain with my disease. It did feel like things shifted or tilted a bit, but nothing that felt bad... just a little different.
