Just curious as to what are the best (your favorite) "unhealthy" snacks that are "good" to eat - potato chips? pretzels? those cheese things with the cheetah? orio cookies?

And, does it have a good/bad impact on your output...

Asking because I'd like to be able to visit the snack bar/machine when I'm feeling a little weak and/or hungry just to grab something in-between meals...

I don't know if I'd call it totally 'unhealthy' but I always get peanut butter crackers or pretzels from vending machines...they're salty, too!

Except the peanut stuff (due to an allergy) I eat all of the junk food above and it seems to agree fine with me so far. Rosemary

I have an ileostomy if that makes a difference. The only food that causes me issues are heavy foods like mashed potato and banana.

I'm a junk food junkie! Don't get me wrong, I eat balanced meals, yadda, yadda, yadda! BUT I love Oreo cookies, Skittles, M&M's...... but the extra sugar causes diarrhea for me. I tend to eat these when I am home just because of the output.

If I am out, I too usually stick to pretzels, peanut butter/cheese crackers, or even chips. The sodium is good in helping to stay hydrated.

I've tried them all and have not had any issues. Baked Cheetos (the cheesy Cheetah snack) are my favorite! :-)

I eat all of those too with no issues. Cheetohs and potato chips two of the snacks I tried when I first got out of the hospital. No issues at all. I chewed them really well though... especially the potato chips.

So do the cheetos give us the needed salt too with ileo's? Rosemary

I too pig out on sweets only when home due to the output.

Thanks all!

good to know....yeah, I would only try the sweet stuff at home as well..but, it's good to be able to eat potato chips, pretzels, etc. when out...helps to alleviate the hunger..and, as many have said, the salt helps also...

Like most of us I eat all the junk snacks. I buy chips 5 big bags at a time so I won't run out. Chips are easy. A weird snack that I like is fried breaded okra.....wth a lot of salt. Fried in oil it is greasy. My wife cringes when I eat it because of the grease. And it makes a greasy mess of the stove. I cook and clean up. Has anyone's gastro told you that people with UC always have low colesterol? Mine has always been low. I wonder what it is now that I don't have UC?

I don't let myself bring chips home much..... can't control myself at all, will eat the whole bag.... better at someone else's house where that would be rude so i control myself.....

The sweets do less for me..... except ice cream, love that..... oh, and good chocolate.

I eat any rubbish I can lay my hands on. To keep weight stable need to eat approx 3500 calories a day as have such small amount of bowel left so anything that is high calorie but not filling is great for me. Yesterday bought pack of 4 pieces of millionaire shortcake and eat all 4 pieces, calorie count for just that was 1200, excellent.
