Hello my name is Ashleigh i am 22 years old. I was born with gastro schizos during my childhood i was ok but as i reached my late teens i started to suffer from it again. In October 2010 i had an operation to have a ileostomy. When i last saw my surgeon she had said that if i have a reversal i am more prone to the risks. I have an appointment to see her next week and was wondering whether i should have the operation to make it permanent. But i am not sure whether it is right to do so yet and what the operation is and the effects of post operation.

Is there anyone who can give me some advice please.

Ashleigh

Ashleigh....I am sorry but I have no experience with gastro schizos. However, I think the most important thing is to get as many opinions as possible from different surgeons and GIs. Make sure you go in with a list of questions and that they ALL get answered. Don't just let the surgeon say yes or no but make them tell you their reasoning. If you are fully educated you will feel much more confident concerning your decision.

What do you mean temporary..is it a loop from my understanding it can stay as is i have a loop and was considering to turn it into a end ileo but thru research and hooday ( sorry if I misspelled it) decided to leave it as is not unless I have any problems...One suggestion do reasearch first before making any surgical decisions just my 2 cents worth Trixiemom
have loop ileostomy

I love my ileo and life

hi Trixiemom, i am not to sure they have just detached the large bowel and brought the small one through the stomach. I had a stoma when i was a baby and when they reversed it thats when i had loads of trouble they ended up taking half my large bowel away. Now they are saying i should keep it as i have not got much bowel to play with, so the way i was thinking was just to get the last op out the way (the permanent one) but i do not no.

what is the J pouch is that better than the stoma?

Thank you collicat i will do just feel sometimes that they do not really know just finding hard to do research as i am not to sure what exactly to search?
