My son has just had a total colectomy due to multiple polyps appearing on his colon.

He is not doing too badly - all the usual problems of going to the loo a lot and loose stools etc. He is still in a bit of pain (operation was 1 week ago today).

He is experimenting with different foods and I am constantly scouring the internet looking for advice on what to feed him and get some very conflicting advice so was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I know low fiber seems to be the way to go but it would be good if he could eat some fruit and/or veggies.

Also I am wondering which vitamin supplements he should be taking to make up for what he is losing in terms of healthy foods. I have heard that a multi-vitamin with iron maybe the way to go?

Also get his B12 and MMA levels checked. Sometimes without the colon we need B12 shots. Rosemary

Your vitamins are absorbed by the small intestine, so as long as that's intact, he should be fine.

The large intestine absorbs salts and water so without a large intestine, those are the two main things we should be consuming more of.
