I am having the same problems. I had my total colectomy on June 2nd, and I have still continued to suffer! At first, things seemed to moving fine, got discharged, came back to the hospital 2 days later because I couldn't go to the bathroom, and I had a hematoma in my abdomen (they thought I had a leakage anastomasis). I had another surgery a week later, and I was in the hospital again. Again, things seemed to moving okay, but I got back home again and ran into problems. I was having problems eating, passing my gas and stool, getting bloated, etc. For the past several years, I have complained about my gas getting trapped right at my lower left abdomen, even when I eat because I can't fart right. It seems like my bottom opens, closes, opens, closes, or bascially it is plum shut! For now, I am taking milk of magnesia most the time, dealing with my intestines being in spasms, and as the day progresses getting more bloated with the more food and drinks I put in me. I mean, a laxative is just a temporary fix for me, hurts me, and if I try to go by myself; I can only let out some, and it doesn't feel complete.
The only thing we know for now is that my anal muscles are weak. However, I am having the gastric empyting test on Tuesday, soon like you. Basically, my surgeon told me that, since I have suffered for so long I could have messed up more of my guts! Most the time when I try to eat, I am hungry, but then it is like, okay, no; I am just going to get bloated, sick, and nausea! Not sure if it from the built-up just from my gas, or I could have stomach problems, too! Bottom line, you really need to have everything checked out. Plus, you really need your small bowels checked, too! Even though I have had my checked it seems a billion times, after the gastric empyting test, depending on the results; I will have my small bowels checked again. Also, I think my surgeon was going to have me consult with a gi doc to check to see what he thinks; food allergies, anything else, or again, truly, just my built-up of gas.
I was going to do biofeedback, but I think since I am suffering so bad; have lost weight, etc. If everything comes back okay, get surgery for an ileostomy, so I will not get the pressure at the bottom and built-up of gas and stool (sometimes the only way I let out my gas is through excessive burping, which makes me soooo sick; I don't know how all this gas can come from such a little person like me!); things will just move so freely, and I can eat and poop! I was getting worried about my medical bills yesterday and was like, gosh, I don't know if I can continue with this, and still do not know how everything is going to pan out (people's guts are complicated!), but the clinic where the my surgeon works is riding off his bill for me from my original surgery date, that helps!!! I thought that was great! He might ride off the next one if I get my ileostomy. The clinic is not like the hospital with charity programs. Got to love the medical field!
I wish you the best of luck, and first it will be the gastric empyting, then after that the doc will prob. order the small bowel for you. I hope I helped! How did you feel when you had an ileostomy? I am not looking at it as a bad thing, if it happens for me. At one point in my life, I thought it would be the end of the world, but I have read so many great things on this site from people with an ileostomy! I am looking at it as a new way of life for me, one that will truly benefit me. It I don't look at it as a positive thing, it won't be. I have been negative for so long!
