Going to England soon. We will be in 7 Oaks/Maidstone, then Cornwall and Devon. I hope that makes sense because I do not understand your towns/cities/counties. I don't understand how every house/cottage has a name as part of the address. Anybody live near where we will be? Would like to meet you. My wife came here from England in 1955, 7YO. No accent now but it will return as soon as we get there.  Always did when she would talk to her mum.

Polishdan,

I just wanted to say, "Congratulations"...Sounds like it will be an amazing trip. I've never been out of the Country & only have been in just a few States. Sure would love to be healthy enough someday to travel somewhere. We have always wanted to visit Italy...Have you or your wife ever been there? If so, did you like it?

Have a Great Week :)

Your Healingwell Friend & Ostamate,

I have been out of the country many, many times in my 67 years. I grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. Canada was about twenty miles away. It was no problem in those days. No passports or even identification needed. All they asked was "where were you born" and "anything to declare". Not the same today.
However, today I have no real interest in going out of the country. I am going to see where my wife grew up.

Have a great trip Dan. I love England. I don't understand the house address numbering/name system either, but it's sort of neat. Rosemary

I went to the UK approx 8 years ago by myself visiting ostomate net friends (I went to the US for 6 weeks then on to the UK for 2 weeks). I LOVED the country. It has such a sense of history that Australia doesn't have. I'd love to go back again.
Ileostomy for 34 years due to UC. I had my surgery at 10 years of age.

How the address system works??

House Number
Street
Post code (zip code)

I don't see how that's different to the US? :-)

What? Not even close! Some addresses don't have numbers except the postal code (zip). Heres a sample
PERSON'S NAME
COTTAGE NAME (no numbers)
STREET (no numbers)
TOWN
COUNTY
POSTAL CODE (with numbers)

Each house/cottage has a name

Hi Dan... I am about 20 minutes from Sevenoaks and 1 hour from Maidstone.. in a town called Tunbridge Wells. When will you be here?

As for the address system.. it differs depending on where you live! cottages and large houses in the country tend to have names, whereas city and town houses will often just have a number of the street that they're on. Odd numbers run on one side of the street and even numbers on the other side ;-)

Some people choose to give their house a name even though it already has a number! just to complicate things even more... duh!

PM me and we can sort out time and place to meet when you're over...
