So I went back to work today - 3 weeks post surgery (Subtotal colectomy) on Saturday. Had it done laprascopically and all the pain has been gone for at least 5 days, which is great. Saw the stoma nurse yesterday and she said it looks really well healed so far.

The thing is, I've read that loads of other people having had the the same surgery haven't gone back to work for like 2-3 months??? I feel a bit tired but I want to be back at work, it's not stressful or physical and i enjoy my job most of the time plus it's nice to see my work friends, instead of being sat at home bored or reflecting on all the surgery/changes I've had to deal with in the last month.

Is it too soon or am I just getting worried over nothing?

I would say as long as you feel up to it and you aren't doing anything strenuous, go for it and enjoy getting back to "normal"!
DX UC - in 2005 when I was 37
Tried every drug-even Remicade-Tried diets-nothing worked
Step 1: J-pouch surgery (Laparoscopic restorative proctocolectomy w/ temporary diverting loop ileostomy) 6-25-10
Step 2: Take down surgery (Ileostomy reversal) 10/8/10
No more UC!!! Very happy with my results of this surgery!

It seems ok to me! Having the surgery laproscopically really helps you heal faster. As long as you aren't working yourself to death... I would rather be around my friends too!

Thanks both. I feel pretty good so yeah I shouldn't feel bad about it, I just don't want to get ahead of myself.

tryingtokeepmyheadup - you had steps 2 & 3 done in one? That must of been great to find out they were going to do that. I've kind of accepted I've got two more surgeries left, but I guess it would be nice to only have one more.

if you feel good and aren't in pain or getting too tired, then i think it's fine to go back.

it does take some people longer, they might have had complications, or sometimes they have really physical jobs or tons of other factors.

Jackie - I feel much better today as well. Been at work the last few days and I've been fine. Not even 3 weeks post op yet. Haven't had any pain for 7 days either. Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine!
