Hello,
I had surgery a week ago to make my ileostomy permanent. I had the remaining of my colon removed and a vaginal fistula repaired. First off I wasn't expecting the doc to sew up all of my butt! I thought it would just have been the hole itself. Kinda weirding me out. OK, so the question I have is has anyone else had this black foul discharge after surgery? Doc says its old blood, but of course I have to find out for myself. It started coming out of my vagina a few days after the surgery. I was just finishing with my period during the surgery too. I'm just afraid my doc did something wrong or something failed. Thanks peeps! :-)

Glad you asked your doc! I would just kind of keep an eye on things since you did have an r/v fistula...if the discharge gets heavier or changes in any way get back to the doc...you are still early in recovery.

probably just old blood, that happens after surgeries, or babies. its really gross and when that happened to me after my son was born i thought i was dying of some awful infection or that i was bleeding to death.

Thanks! I feel better now. I was feeling the same way summer. I thought it was some horrible infection.
