I just received an order of Eakin seals from our medical supply company (we are trying these as the Adapt barrier rings seemed to swell up to much and I am afraid they will block the stoma opening).  I received 3 boxes of Eakin seals from Edgepark Medical and they are dated August 2010.   They are over a year old.   Can they expire and be less effective?
We are having much more of a problem with leaking with the loop ileo than he did with the end ileo.

I have heard these things all have a shelf life of a year. I would try one and see how it goes. If not well, then call edgepark. Rosemary

With my loop, any of those seal rings swelled up too much and blocked things off for me. My opening is very low and close to the skin. I started cutting my own washer out of Hollihesive and that works great. It protects my skin and helps maintain the seal but doesn't swell at all.

I would go ahead and try one as long as they seem ok when you open them (not dry or brittle, etc)

Edit: wait, did you order these? I thought they were samples. If you ordered them, then call edge park and let them know. They shouldn't send you outdated supplies!

I have gotten them from Edgepark within the last 3 months and the dates on my packages were fine.
However, check and see if it is a ''use by'' date, or the ''manufactured'' date.   I don't have mine right in front of me, but I think the date on the box is actually the ''manufactured'' date.
