Both are bad, indeed.
However, UC is considered cured with removal of the colon. UC sufferers can have the J-pouch and have a good chance of leading a normal p%pie life.
Crohn's on the other hand is not curable. 20% of Crohn's patients, like me, have Crohn's Colitis [disease confined to the colon only] we do have around an 80% chance that it will not return with proctocolectomy and permanent ileostomy. But, those with Crohn's in the small intestine are prone to strictures and some have many, many operations to have segments of their small intestine removed and resected.
Crohn's sufferers can have disease anywhere from the mouth to the anus plus other manifestations, such as eye and skin disorders, fistulas, arthritis, etc.
Both UC and Crohn's sufferers have a higher risk for colon cancer after years of disease. I think the same meds are used to treat both.
If I am wrong about any of the above, I welcome any corrections.
My opinion is that Crohn's is worse.
