A few months ago I posted about
having random pain behind my stoma. I had a small bowel follow thru back in January and was told I would get a call with the results. They didn't call and I didn't call them because I thought it could be nothing or something I didn't want to hear.
I ended up giving up and calling and they said the Crohns is back. When I had my total proctocolectomy they did biopsies and said there was no indication of disease in the small intestine. I was pretty optimistic that it would not come back and I would be medicine free.
I mentioned to the Doctor that when I feel lots of gas lingering behind my stoma I push just below it to push it out. I noticed that it hurts more the more I push on it. They said that has nothing to do with it. Sometimes I will go a week without pain and sometimes it will happen a few times a day. When it does it hurts so bad that my whole body gets tingly and numb, but it only lasts about a minute.
So when I met with the Doctor he said that there is some inflamation just a few inches or so behind the stoma. He is going to start me on Remicade, imuran and I would have to go back on Prednisone just before the remicade and then ween down each week after. I just hope my body responds to it. I have tried every single treatment out there and they always work for a few months and then stop working. I think my body gets immune to it. This is the reason I had my colon removed because there was nothing else to try. It's been about 10 years since I have had remicade so I hope it works. I also got some blood work done and found out I basically have no Iron in my sytem. I probably could have guessed that. I bet it has been like that for 2 years.
When I asked my surgeon last year about getting blood work done to see if that is slowing down my wound healing, they just shrugged it off and said that wouldn't make a difference.
Anyone else taking Iron pills? Any problems with it? I remember last time I took them it made my poop black. Gross!
