I never heard of anyone staying 8 days in hospital for a take down but here I am. I wanted to leave on Friday but the station doctor said I should wait to talk to my surgeon, who could name a GI for me in the neighborhood. I have to go back to the clinik a week from Wednesday to get the stitches out, but in the meantime I'm here alone and would like a sounding board at least if I keep having little accidents, although since Saturday everything has been more or less under control. I even slept through the night and didn't have to get up until around 7:30, went to the toilet, did my thing and it was a neatly tied up job.
So I waited and lunch came and then dinner came and then finally my surgeon shows up and said that as long as the accidents were happening when there was diarhea consistency and when things are firmer it's not happening, then things are looking up. He had no idea about GIs in my neighborhood, told me to write him an email about it tomorrow, and then he took off, back to the operating table.
In short, the bag is gone and in its place is a stitched incision that is bigger and nastier than I expected, although healing perfectly. Somehow I've managed to come the full circle but am not at all where I started. Time to go downstairs and see what groceries I need, and then a nice walk outside. Tomorrow comes the first cleaning lady of my life.
