My surgery went very well!! The surgeon was able to push the intestine to the other side without
opening me up down the midline. Prior to going in, he told me that I should be prepared for the skin issues to follow me to the other side of my abdomen. Of course I was hoping that didn't happen, but at least everything else would have been fixed.
Since I had broken out in another case of hives yesterday morning, I was upset that I may be allergic to Coloplast products also. Since trying them on Tues for the first time, it felt like there was less itching, but I had had that happen in the past only to remove the appliance and have the rash be worse than before. I couldn't have used Hollister anymore as my skin was an absolute mess and I knew it really couldn't get worse. Normally I wouldn't have made a sigificant change right before surgery.
As it turns out, my surgeon said the rash was basically gone when he took off the appliance, so Coloplast will be the way to go for me! Also, he told me that what we thought to be a hernia was not a hernia, but a tied off ball of fatty tissue and intestine. He said he had no clue at all what purpose it served and why the other surgeon had done that. I told him I thought it weird that herias are not ususally painful, but mine was very uncomfortable and hurt quite a bit. He took care of that for me along with shortening my stoma.
I couldn't be happier, and I am so hopeful that this is all behind me. Thanks for all of the support!!!! Sorry if this is too wordy or confusing, but the pain meds really do get to me.
