Rosemary. That's what I thought. He is a leading world-renowned colo-rectal surgeon. I am very happy to hear you have got an appointment with him. Dr. Remzi has been my surgeon for almost three years now. He is totally amazing and extremely compassionate. I believe most of his patients, myself included, are "problem children" who have come to him after having surgeries done elsewhere. Right now, I would never ever let any other colo-rectal surgeon in the world touch me.. other than Dr. Remzi. My hubby and I joke about
having his cell phone number tattoed on my abdomen and my "bottom" (as Dr. Remzi calls it!)
If you don't mind I would like to give you a bit of advice/suggestions so you get the help you need there.
First.. Dr. Remzi is an extremely busy man. He is extremely intelligent and very very fast thinking. He wants to help people.. But with that said, he needs to get things done quickly in consults, so that he can help more people. People travel from around the world to see Dr. Remzi and the other colo-rectal surgeons and GI docs at CC.
My advice to you.. is try to go there and not dwell at all on what has happened in the past. Let him look at you and understand your situation as it is today. What has happened in the past, and who did it .. will not have relevance to him. What matters to him.. is your current state of health... and what he can do to get you back to a better quality of life. So please just try to focus on that. Let him talk to you and ask you questions. Don't dwell on all the terrible bad things, experiences, prior surgeries, etc. His time is valuable and he wants to use it to figure out how he can help you. If you can do that.. I know he will help you.
Also, he is a very conservative surgeon. That, in addition to his incredible knowledge and years of expertise, is why he gets good results. With that said, that means.. he may refuse to operate on you until he believes you are in a better total overall state of health. In that case, he will make sure you are working with one of his favorite GI doctors there (tell me who you are seeing, wondering if it is the same one I see there) and he will want to know that you are following what they tell you to do. Same goes with the nutritionists they are setting you up with. They work as teams there and behind the scenes the various docs will speak about
your case and your adherence to their directions, and your progress as they treat you.
I really want you to try and go there with an
open mind, positive attitude and firm mental belief that the doctors at CC can and will help you. If you can go there with your arms
open, and put your trust in them, allowing them to do their job.. and following their directions to the "T", I believe you will see results. It may take time. And they may have you do things that you don't want to do. But CC is the world's expert and Dr. Remzi is one of the world's leading surgeons, so put your trust in them and I know you will see results. Try to be
open minded and not defensive and if you can follow what they tell you to do, I am 100% confident that they can get you back to a good state of health.
Also, if you can bring someone with you to take notes, it is very helpful. The doctors are so brilliant, and so fast thinking, that oftentimes one can leave there with some uncertainty as to what one was supposed to do, plan, etc. I always bring my hubby when I have a serious consult appt for specific situations. So if there is someway you can bring someone, just to help make sure you take away all the information given to you, it will be helpful. Also it is a bit of a maze there.. so busy.. and such a large place. It is helpful to have someone to guide you between appointments, tests, etc.
Lastly, I hope you have a scheduled a few extra days there. Oftentimes, after initial consults, the doctors will want specific tests done. And since you are from out of town, they may try to schedule things right then and there to get some answers quickly.
Please don't take offense to anything I wrote. I have been a CC patient for three years and am extremely fond of my doctors there. They have gotten me out of a horrible health state that other doctors couldn't do. I want them to do the same for you and I know if you can develop a positive relationship with them that it can happen.
If you have any questions about
particulars of CC, let me know. I am a gold member frequent customer! I was just there last week again. And will be back several times in April myself.
